Install Scene

Scene is notarized by Apple — it installs like any other trusted Mac app. Pick a path below, then grant Accessibility permission.

01

Install

Two ways to install Scene — Homebrew (one command) or direct DMG.

A Recommended

Homebrew (one command)

  1. 1 Run: brew install --cask chifunghillmanchan/tap/scene
  2. 2 Homebrew places Scene.app in /Applications.
  3. 3 Launch Scene from Launchpad or Applications.
  4. 4 Grant Accessibility permission on first launch (see next step).
B Alternative

Direct DMG

  1. 1 Download the latest Scene-X.Y.Z.dmg from the Releases page.
  2. 2 Double-click the DMG to mount it.
  3. 3 Drag Scene.app into /Applications.
  4. 4 Open Scene from Launchpad or Applications — no Gatekeeper prompt.
02

Grant Accessibility permission

Scene needs Accessibility access to move and read window frames. It does not log, transmit, or store this data.

  1. 1 Launch Scene — the menu bar icon appears.
  2. 2 Scene shows an onboarding screen. Click Open System Settings.
  3. 3 In Privacy & Security → Accessibility, toggle Scene on.
  4. 4 Return to Scene. Click I've granted access. Scene starts working.
03

Upgrading from v0.4.3 or earlier

Earlier releases were ad-hoc signed; v0.5.0+ is notarized with a Developer ID. macOS treats the new signature as a different app, so you need to re-authorize Accessibility once. Future v0.5.x updates will preserve the grant automatically.

Quick fix

Quick fix: in Privacy & Security → Accessibility, toggle Scene off and on again.

Full reset

If that does not work, reset the grant with the command below, relaunch Scene, and re-authorize.

terminal
tccutil reset Accessibility com.hillman.SceneApp

Uninstall

  1. 1 Quit Scene (menu bar icon → Quit).
  2. 2 Drag /Applications/Scene.app to Trash.
  3. 3 Optional — remove settings with the command below.
terminal
rm -rf ~/Library/Application\ Support/Scene
